Playing M3U Playlists Directly?

First and foremost, I want to thank Sindre for an amazing little gadget -- I tried using Avvenu Music Share and Orb, then stumbled on Subsonic...and this is by far the best of the three.
That said, I am encountering one problem with Subsonic...my music collection dates back to the days when Winamp was the only MP3 player, Windows Media Player and iTunes didn't even exist, etc. As a result, all of my albums are each in their own separate directories, and each have their own m3u playlists in those directories.
My problem is this: when I click on the the "play" icon for one of those m3u playlists, Subsonic seems to try to load the playlist itself as a music file, instead of reading it and figuring out what individual songs to queue up and send to my player. Basically, it doesn't work.
Is it supposed to be like this? Or did I configure something incorrectly?
Thanks!

cant you just click the play icon for the whole directory/album? that will load all the individual songs in that album into the playlist.

I could, and that would work for individual albums. But I also have playlists scattered here and there that take specific files from different directories, and those don't seem to work either.
For example, in my "Jazz" folder, (which contains many subfolders of different artists) I might have a "Jazz Vocals.m3u" which has different files in a bunch of those different subfolders...and right now, Subsonic won't play that playlist properly.
Does that make sense?

Oh ya makes perfect sense, I thought you just had a playlist with the directory contents in each directory.
I think along with adding the inbuilt flash player, could come playlist support.

Would be useful.

I guess that's why I was confused...on the main subsonic page, in the features list, it says m3u playlists are supported...but it looks like that's not really true.
Anyway, yep, true playlist support would be great.

Sorry for the late reply.
Subsonic supports playback of m3u playlists, but only if they are stored in the configured playlist directory (default c:\playlists). If your existing playlists contain absolute paths, you could try to move them there.

When you are in Subsonic, where do you see the platlists that are stored in teh playlist directory? Also, is there a way to see these on the WAP interface?

To open playlists, select "More Actions > Playlist > Load" in the combobox in the lower frame.
In the WAP interface, select "Playlist > Load".

I'm looking at the source codes to see if I can patch it to show and reference a playlist in the folder where it is found without the playlists having to be 'global'.
When you have more than 182 gig of Classical music, much of it from boxed sets, foldered as "conductor;orchestra/album" , album playback doesn't quite help you find the work you want, and having every single work (Beethoven's 5th, Beethoven's 6th, Beethovens 7th, Beethovens Piano Concert 1, 2, 3 ... you get the idea) as its own playlist just makes the playlist sidebar overwhelming (by composer - work - conductor, the collection comes in at more than 4,000 playlists).
I need playlists in folders, with relative file paths within them. I need the playlists to stay where I put them.
So I'm off to see if I can make that happen...
