i am running ubuntu 11.10, i was able to get subsonic 4.6 to load (with some screaming from ubuntu's Software Center, message about; "The package is of bad quality", and it gives me the option to ignore and install, when i did that it installed, it appeared. But is nowhere to be found ). I then checked for updates & an update for Subsonic was found & installed. i have rebooted the system and i changed the port for Subsonic to 8081. if i try to access subsonic in chrome or firefox (using localhost:8081, 127.0.0.1:8081 or 192.168.1.5:8081) i get the message, "could not connect to "host":8081", in both browsers.

I have tried stopping & starting the subsonic service, and i do not get any errors returned from either of the commands. I have also checked for .log files in the /var/subsonic folder and the only .log file is subsonic_sh.log, but it is empty!

Hmmm.... How did you change the ports?

i edited the SUBSONIC_ARGS variable in /etc/default/subsonic adding "--port=8081". And then restarted the service. I only changed the port because the port 4040 did not work either, so i just picked 8081, & because i use port 8080 with VLC Media Player at the moment.

Firstly, when you say "added", you mean changed, right? Not that you added that argument in addition to the existing argument. Secondly, some applications use a range of prots for their communications. Double check to make sure that VLC isn't using port 8081 in addition to port 8080.

Yes, changed. Turned out not to change the port any way with that edit. Apparently that is not the directory Subsonic is actually looking in!

I got it working by finding the subsonic.sh file in the /usr/share/subsonic and starting it, then restarted the service. Once i did that I was able to connect, but had to use port 4040, instead of 8081 that was listed in the edited file.

i would have to say there are some definite issues with the 4.6 install on ubuntu 11.10. I do not believe it is starting automatically on boot up. Will have to check that out.

Thanks for your help!
