Problem playing back video on andriod tablet

I just installed SS a few days ago in my WHS. It is working pretty well except I have a lot of buffering issues that I need to work on. My first question is about playback on my Transformer Prime tablet. When I click on a video file to play it opens in a web browser. I had assumed that it would play within SS but if that is not the case how to I get it to play with Rock Player or something similar?
On the server, under settings for the player, I have tried all 4 of the options (web browser, External player, etc)
On the android I removed the browser as the default action and now I am prompted on what to to play with but browsers are my only choices.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Did you try the Android app for Subsonic? Free dnld from the marketplace.
Video playback can be a bit complex when trying to get reasonable results for your particular hardware. There are several factors involved, the most important of which may be the crunch power of the CPU on your server. Transcoding takes quite a bit of CPU power which varies with the resolution and bitrate of the video being played. Your not going to watch m2ts blue ray being sent from an atom pwered PC with 512Mb ram over a wireless G connection with satisfactory results.
The most practical way to get good video playback is to preformat the video into mp4 or flv and eliminate the transcoding. This takes the load off the CPU so that bandwidth between the server and the tablet are the limiting factor.
I've been playing with video on Subsonic for over a year now and I'm finally at a point where I'm pleased with the result. The positive result, however, can be attributed to the dual quad core 2.83GHz Xeon server with 16GB of ram that taps into a RAID 50 storage array that has 8 2TB hard drives putting out 350MB transfer rates. A bit extreme perhaps, but it will transcode 3 blue ray streams simultaneously, or at the same time, without any buffering.
So somewhere between an atom powered server and dual quad core CPU's you have to experiment with the capabilities of your hardware to identify bottlenecks and determine what is the best format and quality that can give good performance on your hardware. Be realistic and use task manager to monitor the CPU loads while your streaming to see the impact on the server.
HTH
Let me know if I can answer any other specific questions or send me a pm if you'd like to test your tablet on my server.

My server probably is underpowered for transcoding. Its a dual core Athlon X2 4850. But before I tackle that I am simply trying to figure out how it is to playback on my tablet. Yes I downloaded the SS app from the market but the videos don't play back in the app, it opens the video in a browser.

The files are mpg on the server. I don't need to transcode if I can use a player that supports mpg like rock Player.

I haven't tried it on an Android platform, but if you specify the Rock Player as the default video player on the tablet, then you should be able to select an external player in Subsonic. That should pass the video to the default player on the tablet.

So happy to see this post !
Cause i've the same issu.
The link sent by Subsonic (by browser and App in Android) can only be open by the Fashplayer on a browser ! (it's work well with a PC under seven)
Even if the option external player is check !
Try to copy the link in Daroon Player but it does'nt work.
Thank for help !
