Folder permissions and symlinks

Hi,

I have subsonic running as a non-root user ("subsonic") on linux (Arch).
This lets it only see certain files such that if someone gained access to the admin account they couldn't share any files they please from my hard drive.
However, I'm not sure what the best way to now share my music library is. Subsonic can see files I put in /var/subsonic/music, but when I tried making a symlink called /var/subsonic/music to my library instead, subsonic doesn't see anything.

Any ideas on how to securely share only my music library?

Thanks

Put your music in a different folder. I have mine in /media/music (and videos in /media/videos), then set 755 permissions on these folders, recursively (includes subfolders).

Each of these folders don't actually reside on my linux machine, but are mounted via cifs from a windows share on another machine (automounted via /etc/fstab file.) No symlinks are needed to do it this way.
