Is it possible to download a transcoded version of a song?

Postby samotano » Mon Feb 27, 2012 11:01 pm

In Subsonic a user may have the ability to download a song or an entire album. However, I understand only the original file is downloaded. Is there a way to download the transcoded version (i.e. what is actually sent to the player)?

Any interest in adding this as a feature? It would be really useful in my university setup. I'm encoding all our CDs as FLAC for the few users who care about that, but most listeners don't care, and don't know how to transcode themselves.

If you're going to set up the entire library as flac rips, then you may want to also set up transcoding flace to ogg for mobile players. If mobile users set the cache on the mobile device to high enough settings they can then capture the downloaded/transcoded tracks off the mobile device.

Downloading a transcoded version has been a feature request for some time, but I've not seen any indication that it's scheduled for development.
