external player won't play

Postby thedrifter » Sun Mar 04, 2012 2:52 am

hi, there--
i searched around for quite a while and wasn't able to find any post that answered my question. so, sorry it's been asked before!

anyway, i've been completely unsuccessful in getting my music to play on winamp. it doesn't matter if i'm using "external player" or "external player w/playlist". it also doesn't matter if i check or uncheck the active transcoding box. all that happens (after i click on the downloaded .m3u) is that winamp will show a stream connection url and then stop instantly. what the heck is it that i'm doing wrong?? is there something in my subsonic settings or do i need to configure winamp?

i have win7x64 and the latest stable versions of both subsonic and winamp. i'm using the default transcode that came with the subsonic installation.

thanks for any help!

Have you tried another external player? I do find that external player with playlist seems more reliable.
Try foobar2000 or vlc2.0 which also work ok on my pc.
Where are you saving the play.m3u file? Is it on the client where the player is?

i'm very hesitant to have to install another media player on my computer. i've been using winamp for years. also, at one time i was able to play an .m3u generated by subsonic on winamp. but i messed around with transcoding strings and that appears to have effed everything up--even after putting the original string back in. i'm not sure what happened.

and, the .m3u is saved on the same machine as everything else.

Try deleting the external player and let SS create a new one - it may still be trying to use the wrong transcode settings.

thanks, that totally worked, but only if i check active transcoding. there still seems to be an issue with playing a flac file without transcoding it. could this be a bandwith issue?
