So many Subsonic Players

Okay, I did try to figure this out a while ago without any luck.
My server only has 4 users, so should be simple. However, I am now up to player 96 (a lot of the old ones are gone, I deleted a load, but not all of them)
So if anyone can answer these questions I would be really grateful.
When is a player created
Why is a new player created
Can I fix the players? 4 people, 4 players, sorted.
Thanks in advance
Alan.

If a users IP, browser (cookies) or anything else that SS can think of (colour of socks

) changes it will create another player.
With 4.6 final the old players are automatically deleted after a certain amount of time and doesn't (for me) seem to generate nearly as many players as before.

A piece of advice: Be very careful when deleting players. I did a lot of research on this topic, and some of my results can be seen throughout the forum. Deleting players can lead to identity issues. I mitigated those issues on my subsonic instance by creating scripts that modify or delete the cookies under certain circumstances. The scripts will check for a few things, and reload the page after deleting some cookies if needed.

Thanks for the info all,
Is the player creation a function of the JW Player, or is it Subsonic, and is it necessary to create these extra players?
I can create players under the user section, but its pointless as new players are soon created, why have this option?
Thanks all,
Alan.

You can change parameters for specific players to get better results in specific situations. I edit my Android players so that they can use more efficient codecs when connected over 3g. There are also many other features that can be tailored on the desktop to get different features, such as using an external player.
By default a new default player is created when someone logs in for the first time. Until version 4.6 players would just keep accumulating until the were manually deleted.
You can also execute the following instructions to delete groups or all players:
View all players (
http://localhost/db.view):
Code:
select * from PLAYER
Remove players with username 'guest' (change 'guest' with other if necessary):
Code:
delete from PLAYER where USERNAME='guest'
Remove all players:
Code:
delete from PLAYER

Again, I just want to warn users that deleting players can cause problems. Only delete very old players that you are absolutely certain are not used any longer.
