How does Android App Caching Work?

I'm wondering about the specifics of how the Android app caching system works. If I set my cache to 1GB and set the download folder to my regular music directory (where I keep non-subsonic music), will subsonic have any effect on the non-subsonic music that is in there? Or will it delete anything over the most recent 1GB? Does it keep a DB of what belongs to it and what doesn't?
