Subsonic Forum

Problem Description: Last several days, Subsonic keeps turning off and I have to restart it.
Troubleshooting Steps: Tried a full reinstall, updated Java
Playback Application and version: All
Subsonic Version: 4.6 (build 2583) – December 6, 2011
Server Version: jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_31, Windows 7 (66.5 MB / 96.7 MB)
Hardware Platform: Win7
Java Memory Limit: 100Mb

Every time this happens, my log is deleted and I start with an empty log file. Where do my old log files go?

I hadn't had a problem for a year plus and now, all these issues lately. Thanks in advance for any help.

Check your memory allocation while SS is running (via SS control panel).
You may be running short on memory - especially when indexing - try increasing to 256MB.

ok, great. That could be the case. Just in normal operation, I was at 95Mb.

Seems to make sense as it is usually overnight that it crashes and that is when the index runs.

But why does the log keep getting deleted? Is that normal?

Just a guess, but when SS crashes it probably doesn't close the logfile properly, so it just restarts a new one.

Yeah, I assume that's the case too but seems counter-intuitive as when it crashes, that's most likely when you'd want a log. Too bad they couldn't be numbered sequentially.

Anyway, thanks BKKKPewsey, I think that did the trick. Didn't crash last night. Thanks again.

In all cases Subsonic starts the log file anew when it is restarted. Every time the server is started it starts with a new log file and does not archive the old one.

So look at the log file BEFORE you restart the server to see what was happening when it stopped...

been six weeks, no crashes, increasing the memory limit did the trick.
maybe b/c my library is so large.
