Adding different/additional avatars to avatar.view default?

Anyone know how this is done or if it is possible? I really don't know where to get started.

Are these images accessible or are they tied to a database or otherwise generated by code?

Can they be changed or added to?

I'd like to at least offer additional icons if not replace the entire default set with my own.

Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks.

The images are tied to the database. I added images to my subsonic instance but it is quite a process. It was also a little while ago, and I've since forgotten how to do it. If I remember how I did it I will post a how-to.
