[Solved] MP3 downsampling does not work in Ubuntu Maverick

Hi,

So I have set up Subsonic properly, and everything else works just fine. Lame IS installed, and according to the logs there are no errors, and no problems. Everything works fine. Yet, my web player does not play back, neither does my mobile on Android. However, if I disable downsampling, everything works!

Anyone have any ideas? I've pasted a excerpt from my Subsonic logs below.
Code: Select all

Is that a log from when you are trying to re-sample or not?
I would suggest you check your transcode settings.
Here is my log when I am downsampling a 320k to 160. Note the differences especially the end [-] eg output

Code: Select all
DEBUG   TranscodeInputStream   Starting transcoder: [c:\subsonic\transcode\lame] [-S] [-h] [--resample] [44.1] [-b] [160] [--tt] [Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands] [--ta] [Steve Howe] [--tl] [Portraits Of Bob Dylan] [D:\shares\music\S\Steve Howe\Solo Albums\1999-Portraits of Bob Dylan\01 Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands.mp3] [-]

What I pasted from my log, is ALL that was in there at the moment I tried to do the downsample. Unless Lame uses a different log file, then something is indeed wrong.

Just in case it matters, here is my system information:

Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick
FFmpeg version 0.6-4:0.6-2ubuntu6.3
LAME 32bits version 3.98.4
Subsonic 4.6 (build 2585) – December 6, 2011

Commands:
Transcode from what ever to MP3: "ffmpeg -i %s -ab %bk -v 0 -f mp3 -"
Downsample: lame -S -h -b %b %s

The log file I am checking is: /var/subsonic/subsonic.log

I tried again, and grabbed the exact entries from the log that were created when I tried to play the file:

Code: Select all
[2012-04-24 13:57:37,008] INFO PlaylistInputStream - admin listening to "Suburbs - Deluxe Edition/01 - The Suburbs.mp3"
[2012-04-24 13:57:37,015] DEBUG TranscodeInputStream - Starting transcoder: [/var/subsonic/transcode/lame] [-S] [-h] [-b] [192] [/media/sdc1/music_catalogues/max/Arcade Fire/Suburbs - Deluxe Edition/01 - The Suburbs.mp3]
[2012-04-24 13:57:37,821] DEBUG AudioScrobblerService - Successfully registered now playing for song 'The Suburbs' for user yarbo at Last.fm.

Note that I am trying to play the same song as before, but the problem occurs on any song above 192kbps as I have it set to downsample to 192, should it be above that.

Also, don't know if this makes a difference, but from your log it looks like you are running Subsonic in Windows, whilst I am running it under Linux. Again, not sure if this is relevant, but just wanted to point it out.

Oh god, I feel like an idiot.

Your reply did fix my problem, I was just too stupid to realize it at first. The trailing dash is supposedly very important (not sure why) but as soon as I added it, down sampling started working.

I wonder why the dash was not there by default, as I was using the default down sample command.

Alas, all is well now.
