Left frame not loading

Postby gurutech » Thu May 17, 2012 1:49 am

Noticed today that the left frame that lists the artist names is not showing up at all. It's just blank.

It shows how many artists I have, how many albums, songs, and GB/hours, but that's it. If I change themes, I can get a single song title to show up, but nothing else. I tried logging in as a different user, and that shows the same thing (either the same song title, or nothing at all.)

I checked my media folder, and it's all there. I can access it from my Linux server, so it's not like it just can't find the files.

Any ideas?

Edit: I'm running 4.6, with the registration mod, and a scaled down "signature" mod. I'm also in the process of re-indexing everything, hoping that's all I need to do, but we will see.

I've seen this behavior recently on my 4.6 sites. I'm not sure, but it may be a Java (upgrade?) issue.

I've loaded the 4.7 beta1 on one of my servers and I'm pretty happy with it so far. Seems to have fixed many problems I had in 4.6 and it is lightning fast. I was never happy with the 4.6 release, and I actually dropped back to 4.5 while waiting for 4.7.

I'm on Windows Server 08, so I can't gaurantee you' get the same results, but I'd recommend giving the 4.7 beta a try. Just don't yell at me if you have trouble with the upgrade, it is still beta. I had to uninstall Java and Subsonic the do a clean install to get it working properly.

YMMV

Hi Gary,

Have you found that 4.7 beta no longer displays albums by their folder name as in all previous SS versions, but rather shows the album title as it is in the ID3 tag? That was the one dealbreaker I had with 4.7b that caused me to revert back to 4.6 after playing with it for a couple of hours, as I was unable to find any way to change that method of listing albums under each artist. Every album directory is named YYYY - AlbumTitle, to ensure that everything is listed chronologically, but 4.7b1 departed from that and all albums under each artist were thus shown alphabetically. I chalked this up to it being a "pre-release beta" under development (as opposed to a formal beta release on the Subsonic downloads page), but some here have indicated that this is a conscious decision/'feature' for upcoming release.

Also curious what issues you'd had with 4.6, as I've only just upgraded to that as of a few days ago -- I'd been running 4.6b1 since its release in early November last year. Interested in what things for which to keep an eye open, and whether they are specific to the Windows version that you use, or if it's across all platforms (Linux & Tomcat6/WAR here).

Cheers mate,

Can't say regarding the folder vs. tags as my folders and Album ID tags are the same. I have a friend who went through the entire library to make sure everything matched.

I had a lot of issues with 4.6 and reverted to 4.5 while waiting for 4.7. I couldn't get mp3 > ogg working on Android, which is a must for me as I frequently use it on the road and don't always get great bandwidth. With ogg I cna get good quality at around 100kbps and keep the stream ahead of playback even when 3g sucks. Additionally, the tracks would quit about 3/4 of the way through and go to the next track. I was also having some issues with video that was very bothersome and lost the ability to read the indexing in wtv files. I always use the Windows installer so I don't know if other OS's were having the same issues.

So far, I'm very pleased with 4.7 b1 as it has remedied the problems I had in 4.6 and it is VERY fast, plays all my videos, and transcodes mp3 and flac to ogg. I'll PM you access if you want to look around.
