Subsonic Forum

Ok forgive me if I'm doing something stupid but i bought subsonic about a year or two ago and set it up just fine. Now after several reinstall of windows I come to use it again and forgot how I originally set it up. I have tried following your steps on the set up page with no positive result.

I first changed admin password.
I created a new user.
I re registered the account.
I changed admin email address to the same as registered email address.
I tried creating server address as my name and kept getting errors.
I then tried manually forwarding port 80.
I then tried a different port 8080 within tray icon and forwarding.

This is what I get on network tab on the local machine.

Automatically configure your router to allow incoming connections to Subsonic (using UPnP or NAT-PMP port forwarding
Status: Successfully forwarding port 8080.

Access your server over the Internet using an easy-to-remember address.
http://myname.subsonic.org
Status: myname.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it. (ConnectTimeoutException)

Now here comes the possible stupid question.
I tried using can you see me port checking website and it says the following.
Error: I could not see your service on (ExternalIPadress) on port (8080)
Reason: Connection timed out

Do I have to manually forward the external IP adress as well?
i.e. 60.241.xxxxx:8080?

Is subsonic up and running locally? I imagine yes because you were able to update the settings for the network.

What type of router are you using? The reason I ask is because with routers using UPnP sometimes you have to enable it. So then the obvious question would be, is it enabled? I don't know how the subsonic interface checks to see if the service is externally available.

I would strongly advise to manually forward the port eg 8080 in the router.
uPnP port forwarding with some routers is rather un-predictable to say the least (one day it works next day it doesn't)
Go to http://portforward.com where you will find instructions for most brands of routers/modems.
Just ignore the bit where it says about forwarding port 80 for SS - unless you are using 80 (not recommended) you don't have to.
