[resolved] transcoding FLAC>MP3 cuts off song

Postby werdwerdus » Sun Jun 17, 2012 8:12 am

When I am listening to a song using the Android app, streaming from my Windows XP Subsonic server, the song cuts off early and then the next song starts. I am transcoding FLAC to MP3 with this command line:

step 1:
flac --silent --decode --stdout %s

step 2:
lame --quiet --vbr-new --noreplaygain -V 2 -

It seems to work as expected listening on the webui, but on the Android app every song ends about 75% through and then the next song starts.

I am using v 4.6 of the server and whatever the up to date version of the app is. FLAC version is the latest (2007) and lame version is v3.98. Memory limit is 1500 MB.

I installed subsonic version 4.5 and the problem does not exist anymore. I hope this problem gets fixed in v4.7.

I've found that I've had to solve many Subsonic transcoding problems by using different versions of ffmpeg to get the best results. I use the ffmpeg from SS 4.4 for audio transcoding and the 3/6/12 ffmpeg build from Zeranoe for video playback, I renamed them "Audioffmpeg.exe" and "Videoffmpeg.exe" placed them in the C:\Subsonic\Transcode directory and then edited the transcoding lines to use the different versions for each function.

I've done this now in ver 4.5, 4.6, and both 4.7 betas successfully in order to get all file types to transcode properly and improve video playback performance. I too hope that the next release has an ffmpeg build that can do it alll, but for now at least I have a good workaround.
