The albums that are not displaying year tags are not double/multiple cd ones by any chance?
eg artist/album/tracks works (or should)
artist/album/cd#/tracks doesn't

This may be a bit late, but I've noticed this behavior too. I've been going through my music collection, adding years and taking care of any of the other tagging that I missed the first time around, and after setting the year in all of the songs associated with the album, it won't display the year next to the album unless I go in and change the cover art (I've just made it a habit to go in and change the year, and then download the cover art again, and it will show). Just an FYI...
