Some files wont start playing.

Postby glitchsniffer » Tue Jul 24, 2012 12:43 am

So after digging around here a bit, I cannot locate anything on my issue or its an old issue that doesn't come up on search within the first 20 pages.

Ive been having this problem for a while and never really delved into it until now. I use subsonic mostly at work and every once and a while I will run across a song or album on my server that wont start playing automatically. I would typically select an album, hit play all and it doesnt start playing. If I drag the seeker bar a bit along it will start playing and play fine until it loads the next song and I have to drag the seeker bar a bit again for the rest of the album. Only a slight annoyance as it only happens for specific albums. I was wondering why this happens and if there is anything I can do to fix this. It happens to me using any web browser to play these particular albums, but doesn't happen on my iSub app for my iPad or my android phone. I also have a problem with some albums stuttering until I pause the song and start playing again or by dragging the seeker bar again. Has anyone else had this problem and got it fixed?

I have this same issue, or at least something very similar. I'm on 4.6 and this is using the webplayer.
Some files the player gets to and it won't play at all. Even if I seek. I can hear a little blip of the song and then it stops. I can continue to the next song and it plays fine.
Nothing's been modified on my subsonic install. It's just the default install.
I will note that I use iSub on the iphone and that doesn't have this problem.
I'd like to see if anyone else gets this, as a buddy of mine that I turned on to subsonic has the same issue too. Seems like it might be happening on a lot of instances.

The was a bug in 4.6 thatwas related to track length estimation methods that may be the source of the behavior you're seeing. That has been fixed in the 4.7 beta releases. 4.7 beta 3 should be coming very soon.

I have sites running 4.7beta 2 that are MUCH faster than 4.6 and I would not revert to 4.6 for my own use any more. I've committed to 4.7 for everyday use and think it performs much better than previous versions as it is a major rewrite of the underlying database structure.

There are still a few glitches with 4.7, but they are pretty easy to overcome. I would suggest you both consider making a backup of you C:\Subsonic directories and attempt the upgrade to see if that resolves the problem. If it doesn't, it's pretty easy to just revert to 4.6.

Thanks for the advice. I upgraded. Seems like now almost all files won't play. I got one full album to play, but I've tried probably 10 others and they don't play at all. I don't even get the blip when skipping ahead. They load, and the play button turns to pause, but the progress indicator doesn't move.
I'm wondering if it has to do with the 'web players'. I recently went in and deleted all my players to try to clean it up. After I did so, I read on the forums somewhere that if you do that it can mess things up. Is there a way I can reset all players cleanly so that they're not messed up? I'm comfortable editing code or whatever.

UPDATE: Troubleshooting brain kicked in and I tried subsonic in another browser (firefox). Plays just fine. Went back to the other browser (chrome), cleared cache, and now files play fine. Must have something to do with players and cache. Well, at least I know how to fix that problem when it comes up again. :D
