I've tried the regular version and the beta but the program won't open at all.

I've recently upgraded to win 8 release candidate
and installed Java 6 update 33

so not sure what the problem is.

I have SS running on Win Server 2012, whcih is same code base as Win 8. Most of the instructions are pretty straightforward. If you use the Windows installer you should be able to open the control panel and the local instance in the browser fro the tray icon. What happens when you do that?

When I try to go to my subsonic page in the browser it's not found. If I go to the shift ctrl esc processes I don't see subsonic running. But I do see the program installed on my hard drive and in the installed programs in control panel.

So, you don't have an icon on the task bar?

Can you run services.msc and determine if there is a Subsonic service running?

If you don't have a tray icon on the taskbar, and there is no Subsonic service to restart, then the installation did not happen properly. If that is the case you will need to reinstall Subsonic. Fortunately, you should be able to just reinstall again right over what you've already done. In most cases that will fix things. If it still doesn't start after that, it's time for a clean reinstall.

EDIT: Just completed a test install in a win 8 PC. No problem. Runs fine.

Yea subsonic service is there and it's stopped. When I go to start it it says error 1067 the process terminated unexpectedly. I've tried reinstalling many times including trying the beta.

You have to edit the logon permissions for the SS service. Try putting you account username/password into the logon account settings. You can also try the local Administrator account. Remember that if you are accessing a library on a network share then the service must use an account logon that can access the share. If the files are on the local machine, then your account logon should work. I had to do quite a bit of trial and error as my Server 2012/ Win 8 domain is seperate from my primary domain and I had to create an account recognized in both domains to get it working, but you shouldn't have that much trouble on a typical network.

I think there may be some differences in the security settings in Win 8 that may be an issue. Win 8 is starting to look like Vista on a cell phone.
