Service crashes after installing Speedfan

Postby mystery666 » Wed Aug 01, 2012 2:13 am

Just a bug report, i'm running 4.6 on XP Pro. Installed Speedfan and whenever I'd try to play a song the subsonic service would stop.

didn't need Speedfan all that bad so I uninstalled it and the problem went away. Thought i'd report it in case other applications are causing the same problem.

Interesting report. I have speedfan on my WHSv1 server Running SS 4.7 beta 2. It previously also ran 4.5 and 4.6 without issues. WHSv1 is Server 2003/Win XP code base, 32 bit.

After uninstalling speedfan the problem went away. Then last night I installed notepad++ and Microsoft's word viewer and excel viewer and today the subsonic service is restarting itself again. How can I determine the cause? Maybe upload the logs for review?

Maybe, but quite frankly you seem to be encountering issues and behaviors that I've never seen before. It doesn't make much sense that installing/removing unrelated applications would have sn impact on Subsonic. I run SS on WHSv1 and WHS 2011 and have never encounter the kind of problems you're describing.

You may have other deeper issues, but it can't hurt to review logs for clues.

This is a brand new windows install, no more than 2 months old, i've had zero problems with anything until this started up.

That NullPointerException in subsonic-service.log looks like a job for Sindre. A NullPointer normally indicates a situation the programmer didn't expect to happen, and didn't take measures to handle gracefully.

Is this a clean install of the Windows version?

My WHSv1 server is running SS rock solid, running java 1.7.0_04 which I think is Java 7.4?

I'm using Java 7.5 on other installations without any problems.

I'd suggest uninstalling ALL java references through control panel Add/Remove Programs then unistall Subsonic through Add/Remove, then delete C:/Subsonic.

Then do a clean install of the latest Java version, then do the Windows Subsonic 4.7 beta 3 install.

Unless you have other underlying problems with your OS, a clean install should run fine.
