On the whole, this is a great program, and you are making great strides in it, however, the one big problem I've noticed while using it is the buffering system. It seems like the I am constantly having problems where the song starts skipping, and eventually stops loading all together until I restart the client. I never get this problem when using the Desktop client however. So my request is very simple, is it possible to set up a preload system much like what Simplify Media did, where instead of buffering a few seconds ahead of the song, you load the whole song as you play it?
Hi, I'm actually the developer of iSub, not Sindre (he codes Subsonic and the Android client). I'm glad you are enjoying it so far.
One of the new major features coming in version 2.2 is full song caching. Not only are songs automatically cached while playing, the next one begins caching once the first one is done, and you can even manually cache songs, albums, and artists (manual caching only on wifi though due to app store restrictions). As you play songs that you've already cached, they automatically play from the local disk instead of streaming which saves oodles of battery life and bandwidth, plus prevents buffer under runs. It also includes a new offline play mode so that you can listen to all your cached songs without an internet connection.
That's just the tip of the iceberg for new features in 2.2. I'm finishing up release candidate 1 for my beta testers this week, and should have something ready for submission by next week (*crosses fingers*).
P.S. in case anyone is wondering, yes iSub 2.2 fully supports iOS 4 background audio and multitasking
