Video Coverart Thumbnails

So I've been using The Subsonic sever and the Android app exclusively to stream music and video to my Samsung Galaxy Tab while at home; I use it primarily for Video streaming. It's pretty much exactly what I was looking for: a simple, open, server and client. However as you and many others know the thumbnail feature can be a bit frustrating when Video is concerned.

I was doing some experimentations to try and identify why it is that some Video Coverart diplays with the appropriate resolution but others do not. It appeared at first that any picture with approximately a 3:4 ratio maintained that ratio while being resized as the various thumbnails. However upon further testing I found this was not exactly the case.

I know you are undoubtedly eventually going to solve this problem, and perhaps add more Video oriented features; or even allow accessible folders to be designated as Video rather than Audio, so both can have unique settings. However in the meanwhile, are you aware of any image characteristics that cause the thumbnail generator to inately maintain a proper resolution for these images.

If, for instance, I went through and resized all the Folder.jpg files to 600x800 would the thumbnail generator resize them all following the same rule, either maintaining their resolution or altering them to be square?

If there is a rule at play that has been allowing the thumbnail generator to maintain the proper height and width ratio for Video cover art, could you tell me what it is so I can stop trying to identify it for myself through trial and error? Please.

I'm currently rebuilding my video database to work more efficiently with Subsonic, and it would be really nice if the thumbnails for all my hundreds of videos looked as nice as the ones for my music. : (

For reference: a couple images that have been shrunken while not being forced into a square were very large files (2324x3000), they shrink down nicely to 600x775. At the higher resolution these images scaled down just fine for thumnails, but when their resolution was altered to the lower setting, though maintaining the same ratio, the thumbnails were forced square.

It's the same story with another picture that originally scaled down properly from 768×1088, but not from 600x850.

So far it appears to be completely random.
