porting jsp to php

Postby osnet » Mon Sep 19, 2011 10:24 am

a minor request would be the port from jsp to php ...
a stripped version of 4.5 would be quite okay ,
i guess there are many users out there who dont need this smartphone "crap" .
the simple webplatform thingy transcoded into php just to fit general developments would be perfect.
Version 4.5 (build 2384) – 10. August 2011
Server jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_22, Linux

Wow, if a minor request to you is to rewrite the whole app in a different language then I'd hate to see what a major request is.

I agree

As great as it would be to have this in a lightweight PHP version, it would hardly be a minor task.

I think PHP would allow for much more contribution by the users, I know if it was in PHP I probably wouldn't have even asked for some of the features I've asked for, I simply would have done it and told others how to implement it.

It would be quite simple to replicate many of the features in SubSonic using PHP such as basic browsing of files, user management ( and a better permissions system ) but I've never worked with transcoding of media, I believe subsonic is just loading command line software to do that though so it's probably just a matter of learning the arguments.. I'd love to work on a project like that but I really don't have any motivation to do so since SubSonic does it already.. Java does bring in some overhead and the access control system is weak at best, but generally it's a good system so I don't feel like re-inventing the wheel.. I'd only consider that if the development slowed to a crawl and the access control system didn't become a priority.

I'd like to see the support for video to be beefed up as well, it handles it nicely as is but you can tell the system is geared toward music so it feels like the video support is just hacked in.
