Index new music API

Postby id628 » Fri Nov 11, 2011 6:00 pm

When I add a new album, I really hate having to go into the web interface and forcing a full rescan, which takes about 30 minutes in my library.

Could you add an API call so that it adds a new given directory folder automatically?

Why do you do a full rescan? You only need to update the search index for the search engine to find the new stuff.
It should appear in the left frame straight away (but you may need to update or flush browser cache)

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

Ah, sorry, I used the wrong terminology.

I meant that I am forced to log into the web interface, go to "Settings", then "Search", then click on "Update Search Index now..." after adding music. Just so I can then finally "see" the new album on Android.

I'd like it to have an API call to do that in one step, or to have a "Watch" directory where I can drop new albums that it monitors every few minutes.

In this post I detail my method for automatically updating the Subsonic index when I add new music to my main folder: http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7356

This won't solve the long scan time, but it will at least automate the process.
