Stream DRM'd files

Postby braddyo » Thu Dec 11, 2008 12:47 am

This may not really be categorized as a feature request - if so, please move to the appropriate forum.

I have a Zune pass, which gives me unlimited downloads of drm'd music from the Zune marketplace plus 10 free downloads (to keep) each month for $15. I'm interested in using Subsonic to stream these files but have not really had any luck.

The zune marketplace has a special kind of DRM that is crackable only by a program called Fairuse4WM or by using the two programs freeme2 and drmdbg. The latter two both come in a command line form so it would be quite easy to add to the transcoding options. The only problem is that it doesn't really work well on Vista. freeme2 requires an SID number, which drmdbg provides, but it doesn't work in vista afaik, and fairuse4wm doesn't really work in Vista, only using a virtualmachine, which I'm not interested in.

So, I guess I'm wondering if there is any way to implement some sort of drm-stripping as part of the transcoding process? I'm not interested in permanently stripping the drm, just for streaming purposes.

Sounds like your only option is a VM.
The FREE VMWARE player works for Vista.

If its that important to you, install Subsonic on a VM

Yeah, and right now it's not. In fact, others have suggested a VM for other applications, but I really want to avoid running a VM. I'm already running a web server and using the guy as a TIVO. Thanks for the reply.
