Lucene Search Fields

Would it be possible to add mod_date as a search field for the Lucene db. That way I would be able to search for files added within a date range such as mod_date:[20120101 to 20120123] (Search for files added or modified between 01/01/2012 and 02/23/2012. Useful for searching for new podcasts etc that are downloaded in an iTunes directory.
