Transcode VOB files and subsequently ISO images of DVDs?

I have a couple, if not too many, DVD images around. DVDs I want to keep in their original format and not in a lesser format.

Would it be possible, or in the future, to be able to transcode the vob-files into something streamable?

I have looked around and it seems this could work:
ffmpeg -i <input-file>.vob -vcodec libx264 -acodec libfaac <output-file>.mp4

Are anybody else working with vob files on Subsonic?

EDIT: or even complete DVD iso images for that matter
