"Bridge" to Galleon TiVo server?

I'm looking for a way to "drive" Subsonic through Galleon TiVo server. The TiVo boxes are Linux devices and do support streaming. They do not, however, have a "proper" web browser mode nor is one really available. I'm wondering if someone knows about or can quickly cobble together, an extension to the Galleon server such that audio streaming would come from Subsonic. The on-screen display would need to be tweaked to meet the TiVo Home Media Option format. Goal is the power of Subsonic for playlists, search, etc. I suppose it could also be used to transcode video on the fly since TiVo devices are SD at 480x480 video resolution. (Well, usually, I've seen 352x480 and 512x480.) All our TiVos (standalone and DirecTV versions) are NTSC. I don't know tech details which are important about the PAL versions.


My hope is to run SubSonic, Galleon and an NAS server on a dedicated Linux box. The goal is a mirrored drives which look like one big drive (NAS) to any client computer and also have the Subsonic server for web-based audio and Galleon for TiVo use. Any video which requires "heavy lifting" would probably go through XBMC at the point of playback or be transferred to the client computer. The idea for this computer is relatively low power, wireless n, no KVM and stick it somewhere cool and out of the way so the data is accessible but the noise and heat are "out of sight, out of mind." Will probably also have some background processing like defragging, drive health checking, etc.

I'm asking here because all my comparisions have shown SubSonic to be the best option for large audio collections. Galleon and XBMC are comparatively weak in this area so combining them into a proper team seems the right way to go.

I have both Tivo and Subsonic. I host up audio and video to both the web and my Tivo units. I have a different setup.

I have tried Galleon (which I love the features), but dropped it because of the support. I currently use two tools.

PYTIVO - Hosts both Video, Audio, and Pictures from the Server to the Tivo. It with auto transcode video for playback. I have not had any problems with it. (Galleon replacement)

KMTTG - Transcode Video from the Tivo directly to my Web server hosting videos. It transcode directly to WMV (or any other format you wish) with commertials skipping. I've added one line of code that allows videos to be auto transfered to the file-repository when I mark it as "Do not delete" on the Tivo (a one touch solution).

All of the Audio and Video are stored in folders shared for both web and Tivo playback.

Thanks for the information. I'll look at pytivo. Galleon doesn't want to work with Comodo firewall, even if the ports are cleared.

What about using Harmonium as a front-end to Subsonic? I'm wondering how to take advantage of Subsonic's sorting and playlist generation without having to manually recreate them for the TiVos.

We've now got an HD TiVo which is why Harmonium is interesting to me. Higher resolution means more space for text and better album art.
