What greets me when I open up "1- Music" in my Subsonic library is this (I scrolled down a bit to show the problem in detail):

As you can see some artist folders have a year associated with them (probably because there are files directly in that folder rather than just album-subfolders) while others don't so the sorting is somewhat inconsistent to say the least. Of course in this case a solution I could apply myself is to put all those music files into subfolders so no artist-folder gets sorted by year anymore.
Now let me show you a case where I can't just solve this problem myself:

This set of classical music CDs gets sorted by year based on when those pieces of music in those subfolders were recorded but I would much rather have this specific folder sorted by name because the names are based on the order in which the music was first conceived by their original composers. Of course the sorting by year is very beneficial and I will definitely keep it configured but in some instances (as I have shown you now) it can go against its intended purpose.
So here are two suggestions on how this could be implemented:
- Let any user who is "allowed to create and edit comments and ratings" change this sorting for each folder so it affects how everyone else sees the folders as well.
- Let every user change the sorting of each folder for himself so it only affects how he/she sees each folder being sorted.
The checkbox I mentioned in the beginning would remain in both cases to establish a default sorting for any folder that didn't receive a specific sorting yet.
