It seems that with over 1 million PAID users of Apple TV, it would be clear to Sindre that there is an untapped market of proven paying customers just waiting for this feature - it maybe too complicated for him, but it would be nice if he at least responded to the request.

this AND iTunes playlist support would make subsonic absolutely unstoppable!

iTunes has become the weapon of choice for playlist managamement even among my windows friends. hence: subsonic + daap + iTunes playlist support = (almost) nothing left to wish for

Awsome reading, Thanks Gary for the link. Good to know Sindre is working in the background. Also good to see "what may come" in ver 4.5!.

I'm currently maintaining a DAAP server for Java and I recently offered Subsonic to use it - I have however not yet received an answer

I have now received an answer. I currently have two working implementations: an 'old' one (https://github.com/jkiddo/daap) and a total rewrite (https://github.com/jkiddo/jolivia) which is not entirely finished yet. They both work. enjoy.

yes, actually. I'm particularly interested in using MusicCabinet with a daap implementation. Theoretically, can connect the Apple Remote app to it, and run the whole-house audio system (via Airplay) with it. iTunes server is ok, but still uses the old system of Artists/Albums/Tracks. Having the Radio, Related Artists, and Last.fm based playlists is huge.

Does anyone know if this is a potential hack or will we have to wait for some core development on this one?

I have been working on a Python implementation for this, as a separate client. While it's far from a alpha version, I can tell you it is working with iTunes 11, including playlists and artwork.

The reason I have chosen for a a separate client, is that you can listen offline, provided the tracks are cached.

If it is finished, I'll post a link to my GitHub.
