Just a remark: Even though I'm really short on time, I'd be willing to port my changes into the current trunk, myself. However, I don't want them to be lost, again. If anyone of you knows Sindre or wants to learn to know him, why not contact him and kindly ask him to grant me commit privileges on SourceForge? My SF-login is: nlmarco

I already contacted him myself, but didn't get any reply.

@Sindre: I swear I won't vandalyze your beautiful project  In fact, I'm contributing to other projects, too, and nobody ever complained: http://www.ohloh.net/accounts/nlmarco

Hi, sorry to drudge up an old thread but I'm very curious about this topic.

I too am wanting to have some sort of central playlist that multiple users can control - just for office purposes here. (server is off site)

I'm wondering if anyone has found another solution to this? Is there maybe an external player that can be used for this functionality and access the subsonic library but offer multi user control of the playlist?

if I have to I could try to compile this old version that marco is talking about but that seems a bit extreme and then I'd be missing functionality added since then.

hmmm... seems like there has to be a way. I'm new to this so maybe I'm just missing an obvious way to set it up. I mean jukebox mode might be one option (seems like multiple users can control?) but I really want to keep the hosting off site. Or wait, is that what this thread is about? does this only enable multiuser access for jukebox mode and not for any player?

maybe I could do it with a VPN and remote shares - files off site but have the server local? eek that seems a bit steep too. hmmm...

+1 to this thread, rather than starting a new one.

On a related note, it would be great to be able to control the jukebox user from mobile clients. Someone else brought this up recently here: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=15005

Overall Subsonic has been amazing. Great community too, though I mostly lurk...

I don't understand why after a so long time, they still haven't include the shared player option. This would be so nice, I could control the music playing in my house from different devices (computer, tablet, smartphone). A lot of people seems to show interest for this, it would only be great. They just release the version 6 with a new user interface and this is really great, but I think they should focus a little bit more on adding feature like this that can be really useful for some people.

This is exactly why i am still using Logitech Media Server, the ability for all my guests to add tracks to a playlist, (not to mention no transcoding to mp3 and Hi Res playback) this is a major non starter for me. If you want to share your collection across multiple devices and have it play from one source then LMS is the way to go, I only use subsonic to share music with friends and family, the lack of radio support is also a killer, Ive just updated to v6 beta 2 and tried the radio, non of the stations i listen to work, with LMS you can search via the mobile device and every station works.

How are those of you using jukebox getting around the volume differences from song to song? Since the jukebox feature uses a hard-coded string for transcoding, it doesn't apply replaygain values, meaning that you're frequently diving for the volume knob while playing songs from different albums. I've been requesting a feature for years that would allow us to specify a custom transcoding for the jukebox, so that we could at least do it ourselves in a batch file.
