multi person listen as one person choose music

Postby lbvagrant » Fri Jun 08, 2012 9:36 pm

a nice thing to see would be a way for one person to choose songs and for others to listen along...
in other words like a reverse jukebox kinda setting where i and others can listen to the lineup that third person is playing and not have to change anything on our end to "play the same play list or song"
just a listen or follow me link would be great....

+1 This idea

Sharing a queue of tracks is what Subsonic lacks, and what would make it ROCK!
going beyond all other player systems.

+1 adn it sounds like all this would require is just a stream address that can have a link that points to it so devices can just start playing the stream. it shouldnt be too hard to implement as there is already a streaming system there, no?

Sounds like it would just turn this into an internet radio station. Which (IMO) is beyond the scope of this project.
Also, in order to do this you would have to get a commercial radio permit in order to play the copyrighted songs.

You can do this on your own without SS. Icecast and Shoutcast I believe are free options to do that (I've never used them, so I'm not sure if it costs).

not a big coder but have been known to pull a thing or two out of thin air...

what iv been thinking is something along the lines of just send the current playing "leaders" song to the "followers" player and if the "leader" changes songs its updated on the "followers" unit.
I just don't know where to look to assign one to the other but I know what needs to be done...lol
player # or user token theres a few ways to do it
hope this helps someone else figure out what to do as im seeing it being an easy mod

I would also like to request this type of feature.

Here is the situation I would like to be able to use:

I have multiple Android based devices in the house. Older tablets & phones as well as a number of laptops & PCs in use at any given time. basically what I would like to be able to do is have the Subsonic server stream a synchronized stream to any/all of these devices simultaneously to provide a basic whole house music source.

I understand that this type of synchronized stream would not work to an internet client, but that would not need to be synchronized as you wouldn't likely be able to hear multiple clients at the same time.

Thanks for an excellent product!

I have a staff of about 100 people using Subsonic, and we could really benefit from having "listening parties."

I've got a prototype of that in my latest SubFire "demo" (not yet released, my work in progress framework for SubFire 2). Basically, it shows a list of Now Playing, and when you click one (that isn't yourself), it starts 'following' that user. Every time the song from that user/player combination changes, the new song gets queued up in your own playing. Not perfectly simultaneous, of course, but the best I could do with the API as it is. The person you're following doesn't need to be using SubFire.

Proper multi-casting and near real-time sync would need something deeper on the server, of course.
