Internet Radios: integration with a catalog

Postby dest41 » Fri Sep 01, 2017 7:19 pm

Hi,
here's an idea to improve the experience of the "Internet Radio" feature. Instead of having to put your own URLs, which is painful, why not using public APIs for discovery?
For example http://www.radio-browser.info/gui/#/ has a good & stable API and works as a wiki for radios around the world.
See also the discovery tools used by VLC.
Looking forward seeing new features implemented

Darn. The API allows one to fetch the radio stations (I support it in SubFire) but not add. I'll see if I can get that API call added in the developer's forum. If he agrees and does it, then I can implement an integration with that server as a SubFire related service. Will keep this in mind.

There seems to have been no movement on this? Is there any plans to add a radio catalogue?

The Subsonic API supports adding/removing internet radionstations since Subsonic 6.1.2 (Oct, 2017).

The latest version of play:Sub for iOS integrates the radiobrowser directory, and allows adding radionstations to the Subsonic server if the server is capable of it.
As far as I know, no other client app integrates a radio directory and allows adding/removing radiostations from the servers radiostation list.

It is on my 'todo list' to add a radio station browse+add tool for the SubFire suite, but my interest in internet radio is a little low right now as the only stations I listened to were Muppets (on Radionomy, so you can't play them except through their own players now), and Disney related (to which, I've acquired a large enough Disney collection that I don't need them anymore, I effectively serve up my own).

I'll look back into it after I finish the "Desktop" app and playlist editor.
