Ok, well i use subsonic for streaming to friends and other stuff because logging in to subsonic doesn't mean they can necessarily change anything. So its very secure as far as that. But if you want it on your ps3 or xbox360, use a program called Orb. It streams your media from different folders you specify. However, i wouldn't recommend ditching subsonic for this because subsonic offers streaming to other people, wheras Orb you are signed in with only one username, and that means anyone you give that to is now with administrator rights. So stick with subsonic to streaming to audiences, but for home theater streaming from your pc to ps3, Orb works well.
Btw, i set up orb on my pc, and when i went out to the ps3, it already said "orb - my computer music (or whatever)" on the ps3 list. So i guess it autodetects it if its on your home network.
