The plex mobile app lets me select my chromecast as the broadcast device, so i'm sure the subsonic android app could be updated to do the same.

That's true, but the plex team was given early access to the chromecast SDK. Until they release the SDK, there's no way to add that functionality to Subsonic.

I am also interested in Chromecast support for subsonic!

For me, the audio is garbled if trying to use tabcasting, so subsonic through the browser does *NOT* work.

The SDK is officially available, does this mean development has or will soon begin?

Android & iOS: https://developers.google.com/cast/cast ... p_tutorial
Chrome: https://developers.google.com/cast/chrome_sender

Maybe I need a better router, or be more patient with the Chrome beta extension, but I cannot successfully cast at 720p from a Chrome tab playing my movies. I look forward to development of this feature for both the web application and mobile.

As always, I greatly appreciate the Subsonic developers and their continued effort to provide an incredible application.

Unless they just haven't updated the sdk page it is still not officially available. You still have to get Googles blessing to actually use it.

My $0.02 -

I bought Subsonic back when it didn't play video. It plays but does it encode (like others?) if not then playing it on a browser and casting it (720p limit) will prob. work for now.
For music is great - only thing is like what everyone else is talking about - it needs the Cast. No need to add anything if you have Google Chrome on a PC or Mac but this is usually for on-the-go kinda stuff,... small, portable chromecast with microUSB, what phone doesn't use this nowadays (besides the fruit...? and maybe a few others)

Seems like it, I just downloaded the 1.0.6 SDK for Android... https://developers.google.com/cast/downloads/?hl=en and the support library... http://developer.android.com/tools/supp ... index.html

...Look at the big fat warning message on the page you linked or click on the Developer Preview button.

I would certainly pitch in with money to see Chromecast support - you should contact the Google people to see about getting involved in the developer program. I know for sure they have developer relations people looking to talk to you.

Yes, it appears to be official now. Though it also appears to be tied to Play Services now, so any version of Android that does not include the Play Store will not be able to use the ChromeCast SDK.

Finally. I hope this gets implemented, it'd be great.

One of the best bits of the announcement was the referring to 'Google Cast Receivers' and 'Google Cast Receiver Devices' throughout instead of just 'Chromecasts'. Looks like they may extend the product range. Be great if they released audio only ones that plug directly into an amp, or licensed the tech to TV and audio manufacturers... Imagine being able to cast your Subsonic library directly to different stereos all around the house. Who knows, in future they may even handle playback syncing in future updates.

Could be an awesome bit of tech to integrate into. Hope the devs get onto it pronto!

Another vote for Chromecast support here! I would really love to see this. As a fan of Subsonic for a long time and a Premium member, this would make my streaming life complete. Would love to be able to see some sort of in home streaming option as well instead of chromecast going to the internet and back into my server in-house to deliver my content.
