DLNA support would be perfect for this. It would allow for airplay type capabilities, like iSub has.

+1 on this.

My subsonic server is in the basement and my hifi is in the living room, with my phone or laptop jacked in. Now how can I switch songs when I'm cooking in the kitchen … :-)

This is also a feature I would love.
My subsonic server is not connected to speakers, but I have multiple computers that could be hooked up, e.g. a laptop in the kitchen, raspberry pi in the living room, and more to come.
Having a small, headless player running on these, and being able to control them through the android app, the webpage, etc. is something I really would like to do.

For now, I have tested a bit just sending the audio through the network from the server to a remote machine. This works, but I would like to choose which client to control.

Now there's an idea, a Raspberry Pi hooked into each stereo system around the house, no need for displays or input devices and they are small enough to hide down the back and they are silly cheap.
Sounds perfect to me, for £30 you can network any stereo system with a 3.5mm input, brill.
Fingers crossed this comes to something.

Would be great.
My subsonic server is on a dedicated server ... so the jukebox mode is actually useless for me.

I've been thinking about this for a while. Creating a separate "client-server" that connects to the Subsonic server, and is also remote controllable
(e.g. with a lightweight REST-API) could be an easy solution. However this would require a separate client, and therefore not work with e.g. the Subsonic Android application.
Modifying the JukeboxService or adding another player type in Subsonic could be possible solutions, but I haven't looked into the
codebase that much.

when the jukebox feature was announced, this was exactly how i thought it would work. i too use subsonic on a dedicated server so the jukebox mode is useless for me but i would like this feature

it would be nice to hear if sindre would be planning to implement this feature in the next release. Is there somewhere a list which features are going to be in the next release. Maybe we should push this feature.

TODO list: http://sourceforge.net/p/subsonic/code/ ... n/TODO.TXT

I don't see this feature mentioned, but why not implement it yourself and put it up as open source? It's not a bad idea.

Cling is an open source UPnP/DLNA library for Java/Android. It could be integrated with Subsonic or DSub. I just don't have the time...

+1 for this request

I have the same idea as some people here, Subsonic for management of home soundsystemS will be so nice (like it's for what it's already doing)
Actually, living in an appartment with the Subsonic server connected to a soundbar, the jukebox is good

But as I'm planning to move and building house, Raspberry is a good choise for deploying some "smart" in the house. And one part of it is to be a relay for sound.
Raspberry with soundsystem in every room for exemple and kid can play something in his room, my wife can be listening something in the kitchen ...
And the perfect setting will be to be able to synchronise some players and send them the same playlist for exemple

This can be achieved by some ways :
a standalone client to install and seen as an external player in Subsonic
a DLNA client with remote control (so no need to create an external player, but need to have DLNA control added to Subsonic)
the dirty way that is expensive in time and will not be sexy (read not a goot WAF) : using Pulseaudio redirection, but this will be impossible to have more than the 1 jukebox output actually in Subsonic)

And in the interface, it will be perfect if we can choose to share a playlist with more than 1 player (for exemple sending to the webplayer and jukebox)
And last, have a permission managed for each external jukebox player (use case : parents cannot change music in kid room, or kid cannot in parents room)

Is this complicate ? With things like raspberry at 35€, the external soundsystems are now cheap to deploy, will be a nice feature

+1 on DNLA as Jukebox

My Subsonic server is nowhere near my family room audio system, yet that's where I'd like to listen.
If Jukebox mode used DNLA, I could simply use the RC mode of the Android app to play to the pre-selected DNLA receiver in my family room without having to turn on my projector just to listen to music over the Roku.

This is the ONE feature I want. (Is there a Uservoice account for feature voting for Subsonic?)

+1 on DNLA as Jukebox

What I want is to have my SS server, with it's sound system to be controlled remotely AND to allow clients to "subscribe" to the SAME sound stream playing on the server. Other PC's in the house have very good sound systems and should be able to provide a whole home sound stage. That would be my "Party Mode".

The issue with this would be the lag / delay encountered in some clients or network connections. My answer is to allow a few milliseconds delay on the server's sound (behind the network transmission), allow the clients to adjust individually to the stream. Manual adjustment to "Echo Cancel" at each client would help in initial releases. A "Lag Window" setting on the server would allow for longer delays for higher bandwidth streams (I'm ripping everything in FLAC now but will always keep my MP3s).

Hey, users cope with transcoding now, this isn't any more difficult. Party Mode would allow you to combine all the wattage of power in the living room with the bedrooms, kitchen, den, etc. How many pounds of subwoofers do you own? Add it up and kick out the jams!!!

Sindre would need to add a disclaimer about not being responsible for the cops pounding on your door...

This would be great, a party mode, that allowed to you to broadcast from the server jukebox to several headless clients.
