+1 Controlling a stream played on a Client by another Client is one of my major missing Features of subsonic!

;) Thanks

+1 This is exactly what I'm looking to accomplish!

I have my Subsonic server/desktop in the basement. I'm trying to stream/control Subsonic (via jukebox mode) playing on my living room speakers.

Options
1. Run a audio out from the desktop in the basement to the living room
2. The headless client-server idea http://mj2p.co.uk/install-subsonic-media-streaming-server-on-a-raspberry-pi/
3. Roku with a Subsonic channel connected, only downside is the TV has to be on to see the interface

Bump +1 I would love this, like you could select that mode for the player that would turn into the client and log into the web interface from a different device to control it.

Any chance that this is coming? At least for mobile devices it would be nice if they could control other subsonic clients (ie using my phone to control the tablet which is connected to the speakers).

Honestly I have no idea how this implemented yet. It's the number one reason pushing me to move from Subsonic, as it's been supported in DLNA for years and make so, so much sense.

If you are running a ss server you can always login as admin. Anywhere, anytime. So f.e.: I live in the Netherlands, go on holiday in Tjechie... from Tjechie internetcafe I login my ss as admin and play Jukebox in Tjechie from my server in the Netherlands.

How remote was this computer? 1200 Kilometers (lot of miles). Did I play jukebox, yes! Could I f**k up my system from 1200 Km away, better believe it, I am admin of my ss server.

Clients can do the same. Just try... http://melanie.subsonic.org .... l:guest, p:guest..... and see for yourself You are not admin, so you cannot f**k up the system.

On the apps... well, write the app that does it! But the question was about a Jukebox on a remote computer, so try.

The other thing that comes along with the question is can ss server push, what the ss server is playing, to the ss client. No. It's not a radio station.

Very simple.

Glad to see there are others with the same idea. I've been looking for this feature whole night long as an alternative to the Plex music library.

I want to set up the Subsonic server on my home server and let it centralize my collection.
Then I want to attach my Raspberry Pi with a Jukebox (client) to my receiver and be able to control it with a smartphone.

Any updates on this feature?

Hello @all

Why so complicated? I don't understand. When you have Airplay / uPNP ready devices, why its not possible to stream the music to all the devices at the same time WITHOUT installing any Software on the target Devices.
For Example, i have 2 wireless speakers, one in the bathroom, one in the kitchen. In the Livingroom i have a Raspberry with XBMC. All devices support uPNP and Airplay, so it should be possible that a Player that is installed on my HP Proliant Mini Server in my Homeoffice is streaming some mp3 to that 3 devices at the same time. Subsonic is a powerful Application, i love that webgui but i miss that feature! I search since 6 Month's for a Program that can Handle this. I think that the Plex Media Server can't handle this too!

Well, in my case it's simple, my receiver is not connected to the network. Besides I want to have DirectPlay over the local network, to avoid loss of quality. The only solution is to have a client connected to the receiver as a gateway to the network.

As to your situation, I have absolutely no clue. Can't you connect the wireless speakers to XBMC through uPNP/DLNA?

OK, i think i found a solution, i try to test the following constellation:

Airplay Ready Devices: Kitchen WLAN Speaker from Sony, Bathroom WLAN Speaker from Sony, XBMC on Raspberry (Airplay turned on with output to Audio-OUT and HDMI simultaneously for HiFi-Receiver [Thats what you called Gateway])
The HP-Proliant MiniServer: Windows 7, Subsonic in Jukebox Mode, Airfoil Server for Windows as streamingservice to play music simultaneously to any airplay ready devices
iPhone, iPad, Android Device: Airfoil remote (iOS) / Airfoil Commander (Androind) to control Volume and Output to multible Speakers over Airfoil Server simultaneously

Would be nice when this works. I will give you an Feedback.

Would be Awesome when one Software like subsonic / plex can handle this out-of-the-box without installing and using 3 different products...

You were once also interested in a Poor Man's Sonos arrangement, and I have an update on that, but not in the direction I had hoped (I had to buy wireless AirPlay/DLNA speakers, rather than hack Android/Arduino/RaspPi):

I'm also searching a solution to do this. DLNA/UPnP is a clunky batch of outdated libraries and I never acheived the reliability I need for Hi-Def audio (most DLNA can't play FLAC). Subsonic is the only solution I trust now. Subsonic players can just pull from what I know, and not receive the stream without you physically operating that player.

I see further than shitty outdated opaque clunky DLNA libraries for this. Although using DLNA could immediatly answer the need in the actual ecosystem. The solution using DLNA/Airplay would just be redirecting the server audio output interface to any DLNA/Airplay renderer. The server would just think it is in jukebox mode. This solution could be completely out of the architectural scope of Subsonic... except we want to be able to perform the audio output switching from our pocket device: selecting a renderer (or better: a known subsonic client player on the LAN). It would not make sense on WAN (like remote djeing sessions from a German techno guy? ha!) or would quadruple the effort for basic security reasons for 0.1% of use cases.

Many amps have good enough DLNA rendering capabilities, but we all have and old iPhone (or similar) and old dockspeakers we once loved. We just need to stream TO it like we turn on the TV... WITHOUT touching it. DLNA played remotely TO an iPhone never worked good for me. So Subsonic solution through-and-through would be the next step.

Don't mention "bluetooth" please.
