Here's another voice to the choir. Subsonic is super-slick, with an intuitive UI and setup on every platform, but the ability to quickly and gaplessly switch tracks to maintain the proper flow is absolutely integral to any music player.

A little digging around Foobar2000's options, and it looks like I've got gapless working on the external player. :) Here's what I did in case anyone else is curious:

File > Preferences > Playback > Output > Increase the buffer length. 5k ms seems too low and still prone to gaps, but 10k ms has eliminated them entirely.

The obvious and significant downside is that the player needs to pre-buffer a bit, and re-pre-buffer(!) it if you change tracks, but if that doesn't bother you, it seems to work pretty well.

Bump. Please add at least for Jelly Bean where it is supported natively by Android.

I just saw yet another release of the Android app today. Guess what? Still no gapless support on Jelly bean which supports it natively now. The interface look marginally better. I've given over a $100 to this project and I'm starting to feel like my donations are not really helping toward positive progress.

This is the next major feature I am currently working on for DSub. Its not exactly rocket science but its also not exactly simple like the OP implies.

What is a good example of two songs that would benefit from gapless playback. It seems like all of the songs that I have have a gap or crossfade burned into the end of the song which makes it hard to tell whether what I'm doing is working or not.

Any live album. The Grateful Dead's "One from the vault" for example. Or Skynyrd's "One more from the road."

Alright I'm getting a copy of One more from the road. Any particular song sequence that pops to mind as annoying?

I think this is definitely possible in MiniSub, just need to find some time to implement it!

I'd need to create a second instance of the player, then have that one loaded while the first is playing. Then all a track change involves is switching players, not loading. This will be as close to "gapless" as possible.
