Selective media scan

Postby pkas » Sat Aug 11, 2012 1:16 pm

I was thinking that it would often be convenient to be able to tell Subsonic what folders to scan for media changes, rather than having Subsonic always scan from the "root" of the media storage.

For example, suppose my media collection contains 1500 artists, 3000 albums, 60000 songs. (This is for example only). If I then add a new album (1 album, 1 artist, 20 songs) to my disk, it would be great if I could just ask Subsonic to scan that new album/directory. This way, the Subsonic database would be updated more quickly, and the new songs would be available to be accessed more quickly.

Thanks,
pkas

If anyone reads this and finds it an important feature, I'd just like to mention that while waiting for having it added to the official Subsonic server, it's available in my modded Subsonic server: http://dilerium.se/musiccabinet/

I was going to post something similar to this so I guess I could put it here.

I'd like a way to do a full update of induvidual Media Folders as well. Rather than the Full Update we have today. If I add a new network share I don't want to do a full scan of ALL my shares (which are quite a few).

I also think an alternative solution to your problem would be to make Subsonic update media incrementially and perhaps do a full update once in a while. I'm guessing Sindre has already considered this though as it seems a pretty no brainer to include if possible. It's probably a lot more complicated than doing a full scan. Perhaps if Subsonic could keep a full directory of folders and then check once in a while if a new folder is added (or removed) and then update based on that. It wouldn't catch changes to individual files, but that could perhaps be left to a full update.
