The other day, during shower I steped over the soap, fell out the bathtub and hit my head on the toilet. Then the greatest idea came to my mind:
What if I could connect my SS server with some friend's and browse HIS media directly from mine? Is it possible to develop some sort of trust relationship (like in windows servers) between different servers so several can be chained/added to mine and their library list is added to mine, and vice versa, being not actualy copied but browsed and played as if it was in my server? so it would be possible to form a network of trusted servers and instead of having several url's to enter, everything is browsed from one's webpage or client.
For example, once the trust relationship is settled, using a dropdown selector like the 'folder menu' on the left sidebar, you may select any of the 'remote' servers added, then browse its folders, and play media without ever leaving your own server's webpage... and at the same time, my friend can browse my media from his server.

I think you'd be better of setting up a distributed file system, like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_File_System

Its a good idea, but it have been seen and even made a prototype of it before. So you did not have to hurt yourself to get that idea.

I can remember that a user / developer for some years ago did a modification to the Subsonic server to support this. I think it was working quite well.

The implementation allowed you to search on all connected servers via a new search button. Then you could add items from these searches into a playlist on the client and play it. The music then would be streamed from the servers that you picked the songs from.

Unfortunately I cannot find the postings for that mod anywhere.

I think I saw this before there was added a dedicated group on the forum for user modifications / branches.

You could just setup a VPN to the other server and have that user share his folders. Setup Subsonic to use that as a media folder..
