Subsonic for Android and Album Artist vs. Artist

I think it makes more sense to move the "Max Bitrate - WiFi" and "Max Bitrate - Mobile" underneath each server's settings. For example, on my Nexus 7, I will be attaching a Verizon USB LTE Modem to the device. However, the N7 sees that network connection as "WiFi" and not mobile. If I could have different "Servers" setup, one for WiFi at home/office and one for WiFi via USB stick, I could define different bitrates and not chew through bandwidth on the USB stick. I made this same comment on my Google Play Review for the app, but I thought it should be here as well.

Also, please make the change back from Album Artist to Artist. Or, just add Album Artist as a selectable, or additional field. I need to know who sings what on multi-artist albums. It just makes sense.

Thanks!

Jim

A suggestion for this one -- Keep the album / file list sorting based on the metadata "Album Artist" field (so that there's a "Various Artists" listing in the album list for compilations as opposed to entire albums showing up for an artist that ONLY appears on compilations), but pull the Artist tag for the display of individual tracks from the "Artist" metadata field. This would prevent an album showing individual tracks by "Various Artists" while still simplifying the sorting of albums. Just my two cents!

I'm a little confused from this post. Currently, I have albums that have multiple artists. Take the Forrest Gump soundtrack. Multiple Artists, but one album. The ARTIST tag has the artist that actually performs the song. TITLE is the title of the song, ALBUM is "Forrest Gump Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (disc 1)" and the ALBUMARTIST tag is "Various Artists". In Subsonic Android, when a song from this album comes up, I get the correct TITLE, ALBUM. But where it _used_ to show (before the app upgrade back in October) ARTIST now shows ALBUMARTIST. This is not correct and needs to be changed back.

The problem is nothing to do with the SS app but the server version you are running.

App connected to SS 4.7

App connected to SS 4.6

Ahhh, ok. Is it a bug then or intended feature?

Probably intended feature with unintended side effects. Sindre probably has his music tagged in such a way that his way worked better ;)

Hopefully, this bug gets fixed. Because it is a bug, not a feature :-)

I agree with the rest here. It's very annoying getting Various Artist when playing a song from a compilation. I would like the Artist tag back (instead of Album Artist).

Also if possible I would appreciate if also the album name was included in the song information together with the Artist, at least in landscape mode.

With the increased size of the cover art while in portrait mode I realize it isn't any space left for it (unless if you maybe shrink the cover a bit again). But when I'm running my HTC One X in the official car dock (in landscape mode) there is a lot of space between the album artist and the progress bar. I especially would like this info added since the cover gets cropped in top and bottom in landscape mode often causing the album name to fall off the screen, but even if that was fixed I would appreciate the album name together with the song and artist name...

I had high hopes for this issue being fixed (or at least easily customized) in version 4.8, maybe something for a quick 4.9?

Sindre,

Please don't let this issue fall through the cracks. This really needs to be fixed. Thanks!!

The Artist / Abum Artist is downright maddening in Subsonic. Do you have any idea just HOW MANY DIFFERENT ARTISTS have versions of these classic Christmas songs!?

My wife really hates Christmas time, only because I whip out the deluge of Christmas music I've collected over the years. A couple years ago, I went through an phase where I had to grab everything Christmas-y I could find. And yes, I know exactly what you mean. The Various Artists on _every_ album is maddening.

That's the only issue annoys me in the whole subsonic universe.. Please Sindre, hear our cries. Hate to see Various Artists in every compilation album. It also effects other areas such as last.fm.

Fixed, and just in time for the holidays. Another Festivus MIRACLE!

Thanks!

Was there a new version of Subsonic released or are you using the beta?
