Reducing resources

Hi all,
i'm new to this forum, and to subsonic too (just discovered from a couple of days  ), and hope this is the right place to post.
I'm tring to use it on a Nslu2 with debian squeeze, but the poor memory on board (32mb) is a great limit. Subsonic start, but it needs very loooong time just to open the web gui, and to surf the pages too :(
I tried to rudece java memory to 32 mb instead the defaults 150, but without great increasement of speed.
I installed it on my ubuntu server too, to look if may be something to disable, such as cover preview for mp3/albums, and to reduce the memory usage, but there is nothing like that (i found only to reduce the cover preview at 5 in settings -> advanced).
I don't know if possible, how many works it may be, and how many memory and cpu we can save, but some mods like:
- limit cover to: 0=unlimited; -1=disable (if someone wants, may be added a tab "search/download cover" for a single item)
- home: a flag to enable/disable stats (random album, newest, ecc) (and the welcom message may be moved to fill the page)
may be helpfull?
what do you think about?
Thanks for your attention, and overall for your great works :)
Regards
Tk

AFAIK, your collection itself 'requires' the dedicated RAM...if you only had a few artists, the 32MB might very well suffice. Problem is, we tend to hoard the music we love, and quickly consume that RAM and a LOT more. For example, I've always envied Sindre's Demo server, as it seems unusually snappy...only a few artists.

Hi Alphawave, and thanks for your answer :)
The problem is that i have no artist on it, it's vergin
May be some hardware defect, if you say this. 1 hour after login, it has no opened setting page, and the memory usage (ram+swap) was near 80 mb (15 java tasks).
I think i have to investigate
Thanks a lot :)

I think that if you think that you will be able to get Subsonic to run well with only 32 mb of RAM (no matter how many artists you have) you are dreaming...

It just needs more than that. Unless you want to start creating yourself a custom build, but even that is probably a pipe dream.

Sorry,

Glenn
