Subsonic RADIO

Imagine it. Every "smart" sound system in you home is playing the same music, perfectly synchronized without any echo. Individual rooms can adjust the volume to match the conversation (or lack thereof) to meet their needs. Walk throughout your home, the music sounds great everywhere. Go out to the back yard and your wireless connected tablet / phone is feeding the same tunes to everyone out back.

Now imaging that several folks are late getting to the house but they "tune in" to your SS and instead of playing their selections from your collection they choose to listen to the "now playing" option. They are getting into the mood of your party, listening to the same music you are, at the same time you are, while they are still in route!

Partial Repost from "Jukebox on remote computer" topic because it only half fits there:
What I want is to have my SS server, with it's sound system to be controlled remotely AND to allow clients to "subscribe" to the SAME sound stream playing on the server. Other PC's in the house have very good sound systems and should be able to provide a whole home sound stage. That would be my "Party Mode".

The issue with this would be the lag / delay encountered in some clients or network connections. My answer is to allow a few milliseconds delay on the server's sound (behind the network transmission), allow the clients to adjust individually to the stream. Manual adjustment to "Echo Cancel" at each client would help in initial releases. A "Lag Window" setting on the server would allow for longer delays for higher bandwidth streams (I'm ripping everything in FLAC now but will always keep my MP3s).

Hey, users cope with transcoding now, this isn't any more difficult. Party Mode would allow you to combine all the wattage of power in the living room with the bedrooms, kitchen, den, etc. How many pounds of subwoofers do you own? Add it up and kick out the jams!!!

Sindre would need to add a disclaimer about not being responsible for the cops pounding on your door...

I use a nifty app called AirFoil which streams music to all the pc's in my house.

On the back of this though, with regard to allowing more than one client to connect to a stream I think it'd be good to allow multiple clients to access a single playlist in jukebox mode. i.e four of us live in our house, we can all use our phones to queue songs onto one playlist during the party...

Carlito,
Thanks for the tip on Airfoil. Airfoil's "Multiple Outputs At Once. You can send audio to multiple outputs around your house, all in sync." is exactly what I am talking about. SS has done most of the heavy lifting with it's connectivity and streaming. Adding this functionality is a logical progression for the SS feature set, IMHO.

Allowing the clients (phones, PCs or whatever) to contribute to the currently playing everywhere playlist should also be part of the functionality. This should be controlled by each connected user's permissions. Perms for no change, add only and full control would be nice.

+1 on this
a feature iv been asking for, for a while now
I also refer to it as a "follow" feature.
where one person could "follow" another persons stream
seen it requested many time for many reasons... I like the late for the party example and those persons getting to "follow" the "radio station" of the party they are late for.
at that point might as well put in a live input option for real radio function...
but that's going a bit far..or is it?

but again yes please....+1

Hi guys,

First of all i really love subsonic and using it for a few years now. I even got my dad using it (go dad).

I am aware that this thread is already a few years old but i am currently working on a android app which can add songs to the subsonic server playlist (only working when user has jukebox rights).

Idea is that visitors to a party can install this app and add songs to the playlist. They can search for songs or let the app generate a random list.

The person that controls the subsonic server have some extra features like:
- start / stop music
- skip songs
- contol the volume
- add a waitlist (if the server reached the end of the playlist, the app wil automaticly add songs from the waitlist)

There are some simularities with the feature requests you are asking for.
My question is if there isnt another app on the market thats already have the features i am working on? And if anyone would be interested in
this app (when its finished ofcourse).

First try out would be my own birthday party ;). That's on the 30th of april but i try to finish it before that.

B.T.W. Suggestions for features are welcome ofcourse....also if anyone knows a nice and catchy name for the app..

(Sorry for my crappy english, hope you forgive me ;) )

This would be Awesome at a party! It would be definitely part of what this thread is looking for as it doesn't cover the stream sharing function outside the home network as ibvagrant described above...the "late to the party" as it was labeled.

I would love to try it out when you get it working!

if its exclusively Subsonic....maybe Sub-Sync, Sub-Link, Sub-Share, Sub-Party :)
