Screenshot of the new Flash GUI in progress?

Hi Sindre,

I'm very curious to at least see a screenshot of the new Flash GUI that you're working on. I'm sure everyone else would love to get a little glimpse of it :D !

I'm guessing you're planning to use it with a future release after v3.5 (since the beta currently uses the HTML GUI), right?

Well, sorry to say I have postponed the Flash project indefinitely. I'm currently interested in improving the support for mobile devices, and Flash isn't the best technology for that.

Currently, I'm working on a jukebox mode (letting Subsonic play music directly to the server's audio device). Next, I'm gonna look into making an HTML-based interface suitable for mobile phones (e.g., using your iPhone as a remote control)

But first of all I'm going on vacation :)

It's OK...I think the current HTML GUI works great anyway. The only thing it could use is definitely some AJAX elements. Especially with the sorting of playlist items. I have a lot of experience with HTML/JavaScript/Ajax/etc. so if you need any sample code for implementing any features, just let me know.

As for the Jukebox mode...don't forget to also take into account the Sony PSP since it has it's own built-in browser and WiFi. That would make an excellent remote control as well. Just so you know, the resolution on the PSP is 480x272 px. If you need me to test a build for you, just let me know.

Enjoy your vacation...I'm sure you could definitely use one!

Agreed, the playlist could definitely need some Ajax revamping. Hope to get around to that sooner or later.

Regarding PSP: Yes, that would be nice, but do you know how well it supports JavaScript and AJAX? I got the impression that the browser is very basic.

Cheers,
Sindre

One of the best and easiest ways to incorporate the ajax sorting would be to use the scriptaculous framework. Here's a quick and dirty example of sorting a list by simple drag+drop: http://demo.script.aculo.us/ajax/sortable_elements

You're right about the PSP. I believe it does support some JavaScript, but it's very limited. But I assumed that you would have a more simplistic/streamlined interface for the iPhone and PSP versions. But I know how it is to have to maintain two sets of code/interfaces to perform the same functions. Becomes a headache when incorporating new features.

Thank god! :)
I actually hate Flash interfaces.

I need to look into Pocket Tunes Deluxe for PalmOS. This also allows to play streams. Maybe this can be supported as well.

Code: Select all
Play hundreds of Internet radio stations from the built-in catalog or tune in to your favorites.

In addition, 4.0 improves compatibility with software that makes your home music collection available on your phone.

As I've just seen, Pocket Tunes is now also available for Windows Mobile.

Great idea, I didn't have any time to plan my vacation yet so I first pick up the loose ends of incomplete development projects like the extended search function for Subsonic.

I still use pocket tunes on my Palm 700p (Don't laugh - I know its old, but it does everything a geek needs). I use the WAP interface to load a playlist and then connect to the stream with PT. Its not seamless because if I want to change songs I need to go back to the browser and select the song. There is usually a 30sec buffer before it starts to play.

Will this enable you to skip through tracks by any chance?
