Reducing number of players

I would like to suggest limiting the number of players to the number of users. Having a user/ipaddress player just makes it confusing for most people. There also isn't enough connection to an ip address to make it meaningful enough.

Just to provide some more background info. I've just returned from a business trip, and used subsonic while on the road. Now I'm back and I have a dozen players.
I may be dense, but I don't see any benefit from attaching players to ip addresses, it only becomes a housekeeping chore.
Thanks for listening!

I guess it's a classical example of trade-off between flexibility and simplicity. The rationale behind allowing multiple players per user is for instance if you (like me and many others) have one player in the living room, one in the kitchen and one at work, and would like them to have individual playlists and settings.
However, I'll be the first to admit that the concept of mutliple users / multiple players can be confusing. Also, it's never popular to remove features that people have gotten used to.
About your trip: Were you using the same pc all the time? And were you using the latest Subsonic beta version (3.5.beta1)? If so, I'm surprised that a lot of new players were created. That was supposed to be fixed in 3.5.beta1.
Thanks for your input,
Sindre

Thanks for the reply Sindre. I know there are multiple ways to solve any problem, but I would just create users called living room, kitchen, etc.
Also, I like to have a guest type of account that I give to many people who don't have a unique id. Now each one of those users will create another player.
It seems to me I get a new player anytime the ip address on the client side changes. I do have the dynamic IP address option checked.
I'd love to see a one player/one user option for the next release.
As for my trip, yes same PC but a variety of ip addresses. Just checked and I'm using the beta release.

Yeah, I'll consider that. If it's not too much trouble I'll add that.

Hm, strange. The player ID is stored in a cookie in your browser, and should be remembered even of the IP changes. Have you by any chance disabled cookies? Can you look for a cookie called "player" in your browser settings?
Thanks,
Sindre

I'm using FF 3.01. I do not have a 'player' cookie in the list, but there are dozens of cookies listed there.
Just checked other PC's that access SS, and none of them have a 'player' cookie either.
Thanks for considering this request in the next release Sindre!
