Firstly, SS is awesome for handling large collections, and serving those collections to other clients. After years I have not found anything better.
But using XBMC / Plex and others for video I have also seen how they handle enhancements for music.
- download fanart/metadata for artist and album and have an optional slideshow during playback.
- download album reviews from a public scraper.
- display lyrics with a karaoke bar during playback.
- optional display of similar artists / influenced by artists. This is extracted from metadata of course.
These three features alone would make the subsonic experience over the top for me.
