Control a subsonic client from within a remote app

I love the sonos system, but I was looking for a cheaper way.
I mostly have my own boxes/amplifiers and am not that interested in their own boxes, but just in their way of communicating between the different audio equipment.
They have one component, the "connect" that can do this (connect your own boxes on the system), but it costs 350 euros...

Till this time, I haven't found any system that can replace this.

This could be a killer feature for subsonic: Beeing able to control different subsonic clients within an android app for example.
I have a subsonic server (running on my NAS). How awesome would it be that you could get a raspberry pi for example, put a subsonic client on it and control this from an android app (or iOS or website or...).

Actually create a cheaper (and a little bit less feature rich) sonos system. (Sonos also creates its own wireless network, etc... but that would be overkill)

What do you guys think?

Yep would love this. My subsonic server doesn't have a soundcard on it, i just use it to store the audio files. Would be good to have a number of clients setup around the house, all linked to the server and all being controlled via an app / webpage.
