Properly working database

Postby toolman » Sun Feb 16, 2014 5:20 pm

Hi,
With the introduction of Subsonic 4.8 I have to deal with a database that just isn't working properly.
The issues I have are:
New Albums appear at random after rescanning all music folders. That means sometimes they appear after the first scan, sometimes they appear after the third or fourth scan.
Same goes for coverart which in some cases isn't even updated.
When I use the feature from Subsonic to update tags in songs, than they are immediatly visible. If I use a program like MP3Tag, the changes never become visible.
That 's quite annoying. I've been updating the "genre" tag in a lot of songs from "unknown" to the correct genre. However, even after multiple scans Subsonic still insists that all these albums have a genre tag "unknown". Same goes for the tag "year".
The only way to fix this is to disable al my music folders, do a scan, clean the database, enable all the folders and do a scan again.
The downside of this method is that all my remarks, starratings and the times an album was played are gone.
As an extra problem Subsonic keeps on remembering genre's which I have removed from the songs. So I now have a list that contains some 200 genres like "Who cares" "Unknown" "765" "kind of jazzy" and so on. They keep appearing even after cleaning the datebase 20 times.
Anyone found a way to fix (part of) these problems?
My collection is'nt enormous, according to Subsonic I just have 10.654 albums 118.589 songs 994,42 GB.
I like to think that this should be no problem to any decent database program.

I had the same problem with scans not always picking up new content. It has been fixed in 4.9.
In 4.9beta3: 'Bugfix: Newly added media was sometimes not picked up when scanning libraries.'

Ok,
Updated to 4.9 and 1 issue is resolved, but the other issues remain.
I installed a second subsonic-server (version 4.9) using the same mediafolders and encounter exact the same problems regarding tags remaining in the "genre"-list which have been altered in the song.
If I add just 1 mediafolder, change tags, rescan the folder and perform a database cleanup, all the wrong tags are removed from the "genre"-list.
So it looks like I have to do my retagging folder by folder: correcting the tags, rescan the folders, clean up the database and start with the next folder.
