I have tried both, at the moment subsonic is the most ideal solution in my situation, but there are many nice things around...

Some requests:

- Get album art, fan art, biography ... from last.fm and other sources.
- Upnp use the art to have a nice living room experience with your htpc (make upnp work well first)
- Make SS watch changes in folders and rescan only the changed part when changes are made.
- Combine multiple server libraries in one instance.
- Mysql support
- Decent web-ui, take a look at plex for instance.
- ACL. Set per user directory access..
- Maybe focus only on music, because you can not do all the things at once??

Let the community be part of the development to speed up the process a bit.. There are so many people with great skills and ideas, so why not make it a team-effort...?

It's not all feature requests

Some things I love about SS:
- Easy to use Webui.
- Keep my folder / file based structure for presenting music...
- Transcoding
- Wide variety of apps. (note that the iSub app is still up to date, but this will change and there is no such alternative on iOS)
- Stability, when running it on tomcat it keeps running for months... (few problems with jetty in the past here)

Keep up the good work!

I would especially ask the Sindre moves to github. There are so many of us who will willingly donate our time to fix the issues that bother us, but svn makes that all but impossible.

It would certainly speed up development, when people donate their time and Sindre coordinates the whole thing...

Maybe a 5.0 release is a good moment

I agree with the need to share the development load.. Sindre leads the way while others can help fix what is already there... Github would be a great way to do this..
As to going only to a music based platform, I do not agree.. What does need to happen is to improve the video functions and make SS more aware that video mode is different from music mode and to have it smart enough to handle them separately.. Right now there is a tendency to blur them together and it looks/is messy. This is an area where Plex does a superb job. I think that once SS gets this working properly it will be a better product as a true Multi-Media server. I find SS to be so much more stable than Plex and way easier to setup (CentOS 6 Linux) than Plex and was one of the main factors in my choice of SS over Plex. Keep up the great work Sindre!!
