A script that makes thumbs for the whole catalogue

Postby Jebba » Mon Sep 29, 2014 3:41 pm

I run Subsonic on an old QNAP TS419P+ ARM nas.
After reinstalling it, the box has a tremendous load when generating the thumbs in the home/thumbs/* folders
This either results in skips during jukebox playback mode or a complete crash when it's being used a bit more intensively (playing and thumb resizing of big artwork).
I solved it more or less by keeping Subsonic open in Firefox and let it generate thumbs in the 'home' tab of Subsonic. Unfortunately this only generates 150p thumbs. The other types only get generated when entering a folder with multiple albums, when a piece of album art is zoomed or when the album is playing in the sidebar (I think)

Can someone write a script that makes the thumbs for every folder so I can run it while not listening to music?

in the /home/thumbs/ folder you can find folders with 110, 150, 300, 400, 60 pixel thumbs

I assume these are all the resolution sizes necessary.

the naming system of thumb files is unclear to me, but the same picture in a different size has the same name:

for example: 33ed81fbf15f39a7b974982834006fd0.jpg can be found in folder /300/ , /150/ and /60/

Any ideas on this?

I once asked for this to be an option in Subsonic, but a script on the side would suffice, since the initial massive thumb generation is the problem. Not an occasional new album that pops up every now and then.

Cheers.

Am I the only one who has these 'on the fly thumb generating' problems?'
I know ARM processors are kind of underpowered in this field, but they suffice for everything else I use.
