64-bit Java

What's the deal with Subsonic not running on 64-bit Java?
It's kind of annoying to have to maintain a legacy JVM just for that, especially since the whole point of Java is portability.
Can this be fixed in any way? I think some Subsonic forks might work with 64-bit JVMs.

To clarify, this is on Mac.
I just successfully managed to run on 64-bit Java simply by using the standalone tar.gz and running subsonic.sh, so it's really just the Mac installer that's problematic.
