Hi. I was reading the announcements forum, where Sindre was testing the water about removing the "External Player" features, and there seemed to be some opposition to it. I wanted to float the idea of adding an external player that would be streaming the music to a network DLNA destination. Let me explain...
In my house, I have a network connected Yamaha receiver - its upstairs. I also have a freenas server in the basement, and it runs Subsonic in a jail (effectively a VM on my freenas box). What would be awesome is to be able to set up a player in subsonic that would stream the music contents to a network DLNA receiver, such as my Yamaha receiver or a desktop. I don't know if DLNA is designed to do this, but I hope it might be feasible to add another player type, an elipses button, and that button would scan the network for DLNA compliant destinations to stream the music to.
Because I didn't have a means of doing this, I set up a Linux box running Subsonic near my Yamaha receiver. The audio output from the subsonic Linux box connects to one of the audio inputs on the receiver. I use subsonic on my android tablet and phone to play music from the subsonic PC in jukebox mode, which accomplishes what I've been trying to do, however if I could eliminate it all together, that would be even better. If anyone knows a way for me to accomplish this, I'd really like to hear from you.
Sindre, thanks for such an awesome app! Use it every day for music at home, and away from home. Subsonic ROCKS!
Thanks!
Marlen.
